Chachapoyas to Nuevo Tingo

Most visitors to the region stay in Chachapoyas, which, with a population of 32,000, is the largest town in the state of Amazonas. However, Nuevo Tingo is increasingly chosen by independent travelers as a place to stay, especially those who want to visit Kuelap at thier own pace and without the restrictions of an organized tour.

The journey time to Tingo from Chachapoyas is about 55 minutes, and once outside of Chachapoyas, you will enjoy spectacular views of the mountains and Utcubama Valley for the remainder of your journey. Most day trippers will arrive on one of the tour buses leaving from the main square of Chachapoyas. However, independent travelers can take public mini-buses with the transport company Transporte Tourismo Kuelap, which leave each hour from Chachapoyas bus station. As of October 2021, the cost of the journey is 14 Soles.
